At the tender age of 19, Delfina Delettrez‘s artistry hit planet jewellery like a meteor. Although she branches from the Fendi fashion dynasty (mother Silvia Fendi reigns supreme as head of accessories) this jewellery starlet personifies individuality. The logo alone is tattoo-worthy (sketched by Lagerfeld himself when Delfina was an infant). The fusion of ancient and modern, refined and rocksteady, papal and carnival – there’s no wonder that this talented 25 year old grew up between Rome and Brazil.
I’ll never forget meeting Delfina, 7 years ago in Milan, when the Fendi house invited me to sit front row at their show.
They were proud and excited that Delfina was pregnant with her first child – and as chance would have it I had worked with Delfina’s babydaddy – actor Claudio Santamaria (Bernardo Bertolucci’s film ‘Besieged‘), a number of years before.
During our dinner, Silvia told me that Delfina was a jewelry artist, and was about to launch her first collection. The proud Mama lifted her hand, which was adorned with Delfina’s hot-off-the-worktable jewellery.
It’s the ‘3 skulls’ ring I’m wearing in this picture. I was stunned, humbled and felt like the luckiest girl in Milan. The ‘3 skulls’ ring is still part of Delfina’s body of work today; 7 years and many stunning collections later. I wear it with pride, and memory of a very special time with two fashion Goddesses.
