Le Weekend

Whether it’s Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall, our wardrobe and make up bag tends to be divided into 2 looks – daytime and nighttime. But on a recent ThandieKay shoot I realized there’s a whole other category, and that’s the WEEKEND look. It’s where night spills over into day, and sun and moon seem to smooch and invite each other over into their hoods. It’s the bridge, the pause, the highest point of the upward swing before momentum propels you forward again. And it’s all yours. Your weekend. So no wonder we bust our me-est of me looks on those sacred days – wearing the looks that make us feel delicious, flirty, special – but chilled at the same time.

Every weekend is a celebration of sorts, so we reflect that by adding an ounce of glamour to even a t shirt and bed head. When it comes to the weekend, all rules are off.

Think of the iconic looks the weekend has inspired – the boyfriend jean, the smudgy ‘next morning’ eye and tousled hair. And all to be seen over the most inspired meal ever – brunch. When else does it feel perfect to wear a bit of bling at breakfast?

Brunch screams for the chicest of casual – the perfect sweatshirt with slouchy jeans and a stiletto, or silk vintage dress with kicks and a chunky knit cardigan. Not forgetting the thrown together make up look of whateveryoulike to celebrate your freedom – scrubbed clean face with a hello! of lip color, or those morning-after-eyes topped with a rush of fresh mascara.

And my favorite weekend accessory of all has to be a chunky wad of newspapers stuffed under one arm.

We hot_pink_heart_magnet_photosculpture-p15398375969407247835xz_4001Le Weekend, and here’s our look to celebrate that perfect pair of days.

Le Weekend

Okay we bumped it up a notch for the pic.. #casual

Butter London nail lacquer in ‘Cotton Bud (or ‘Q Tip’ in the US!). We LOVE this no-color color.cotton_buds

Appropriately for the weekend, it reminds me of Math lessons as a teen, where I’d idly paint a nail with white corrector fluid – little did I know that I’d be busting a full set of ‘math rebel’ nails 25 years on!

Application

For DIY application (it’s not the easiest to apply) my tip is to bypass the undercoat – it made the white very streaky and I had to start over. When I used the lacquer straight onto a naked nail it went on MUCH better. 2 coats and a clear top coat for solid color.

J’adore pour Le Weekend.

BASE

Check out our BASE

For our subtle ‘3 prong approach’ of light foundation (as a veil), concealer and optional dusting of loose powder, see our post here

Eyes: S186957_XLARGEAs you know by now, we’re both fans of Chanel make-up, it’s where innovation and style combine. Stylo Eyeshadow in Black Stream is (I’m not just saying this-honest!) very easy to use and has great CPW (cost per wear). Smudge a little around the eyes a la ‘last night’s eye m-up’. Julie Hewett CHEEKIEA good blusher is essential for fresh-looking make-up, try one of our favourites: Julie Hewitt Lip & Cheek Shine,  Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge or Becca Beach Tint.

A good ‘brunch mascara’ (you heard it here first) is Lash Accelerator by Rimmel London. as it simply does the job with no clumps and builds well if you’re going out later (curling and adding another coat). Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 13.50.56

Thandie’s lip colour was by our latest lipstick brand crush-ILIA and this super-sheer, orange-red is called Wild Child Screen Shot 2014-01-13 at 20.58.44 (a limited range is available in the UK from Beauty Mart‘)

Okay, it’s a festive brunch…

Kay and I are mad for Vicki Sarge‘s accessories left, right and in all pics. She defines Costume Jewelry at its very best – using semi precious stones, fabric, plastic – whatever she feels like combining, and the results are always stone cold classics.

Whenever we wear Vicki Sarge it’s hard to then justify the cost of ‘fine jewelry’ – that’s why you can buy yourself costume jewelry and get someone else to take care of the fine jewelry! Purrrfect.

Volver premiere 2006 in Erickson Beamon

I first came across Vicki’s work with her original jewelry line Erickson Beamon. I wore earrings to the Premier of Pedro Almodovar‘s brilliant ‘Volver‘ in London left, and spent the evening bonding feverishly with its star Penelope Cruz, whom I adore. It took her seconds to coo over my Erickson Beamon accessories, so the next day I sent her the same pair, courtesy of Vicki. A match made in heaven.

Our favourite pre or post Sunday brunch (UK) newspaper The Observer magazine had some great brunch looks here.
