Long recognised as one of the world’s top fashion destinations, Browns on South Molton St in London is famously credited for discovering talents such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Christopher Kane. Founded by Joan Burstein CBE and husband Sidney in 1970, Browns has supported and promoted fashion designers for 43 years, influencing department stores to be more design-led.

Which brings us to Ghanaian-born Rebecca Osei Baidoo, who for the last 4 years has been the women’s fashion buyer for the store. Thandie happened to read an article about Rebecca recently and thought “ooh-she’s perfect to edit next season’s collections’.

We’d also both noticed that Browns had a lot more cutting edge brands and a whole world full of the unusual such as Ashish, Untitled & Co and NY brand Leroy’s Place (that we featured before here). Thandie put two & two together and realised this was Rebecca’s influence, and that we must ask her to be our 2nd (after Corinne Bailey Rae) guest fashion editor!

So here are Rebecca’s exclusive selections from the recent shows. We are LOVING these picks.

Simone Rocha

This show was definitely one of THE best in London. I’ve been buying Simone’s collection for the last four seasons and without sounding too cliche, her collections get better and better. From the setting in the Tate Modern to the live band, this show was really powerful and feminine with embellishment on everything from oversized coats, her signature brogues and modern day tiaras.
For me one of the many highlights was the tartan…I have to say it’s not the easiest look to rock in real life but I definitely think she made it wearable in a very ‘Simone way’ and I am SURE the ruffle top dress will be the first thing to sell out when the collection delivers in store…

Dries

What isn’t there to love about Dries’ clothes, they are so beautiful, colourful, intricately embroidered, referencing cultures from all over the world, whilst always being wearable .
Fall Winter was exactly this in true Dries style. My favourite look was the navy knit with hand painted silver flowers worn with the fluo orange and navy skirt. Such a Dries combination and the colours work so well together. Even though he has a very loyal following I do believe that he attracts a new customer every time which is very admirable. He’s been in the business for nearly 30 years and this year he worked with the Musee des Arts Decoratifs on an exhibition of all his work, past and present collections. I had the pleasure of going to the opening and I highly recommend it, it was truly beautiful.

Moschino

Welcome back to Moschino thanks to Jeremy Scott! This show was exactly what the brand needed to relaunch itself. It’s a pleasure to see the sense of fun come back to a brand that was essentially that, but had lost it’s way.
I was lucky enough to buy the capsule collection which was fresh off the runway! As predicted it sold out in less than a day! It was very, very clever. Who doesn’t want to buy a dress and a bag that Jourdan Dunn was wearing the next day in store? Genius.
I can’t wait to see what Jeremy comes up with Spring Summer 15…I have a feeling it will top this!

3.1

Phillip Lim always shows a mixture of clothes that you wish you had in your wardrobe…they’re always so wearable and useful and you end up wondering why you don’t own them already! Fall Winter was on the one hand very light in colour with pastels and soft fabrics, on the other, there was beautiful shearling in deep browns and purple will make you wish it was winter fast, especially when those will be the pieces in the ad campaign! These pieces will be very easy to wear when they deliver in August which is the best reason to buy them.
