Me and the cold don’t get on. I turn into a cranky old crow instantly – all hunched over with a face like I’ve eaten something nasty. And my skin! Cold and wind are probably the worst enemies to a glowing complexion – and while shooting in NY this year I had to find ways to combat this skin/weather stress.
Extra moisturiser is an obvious go-to, but the build up under foundation encourages clogged pores and an over made up face.
Bobbi Brown came up with my answer. Her Luminous Moisturising Treatment Foundation – at first I dismissed it as another name for yet another ‘alphabet’ cream (BB, CC, EE sigh…) – but I was wrong.
It’s not a BB cream because it gives real foundation coverage – and the colours are fantastic. They tend to end up a shade darker once they’re worked onto the skin – and I used 2 shades (I always do with foundation). The darker shade for the outer edge of my face (The Frame) and the lighter shade for my T Zone. (I talk about this key foundation application tip in one of our tutorials for Net a Porter which you can see here)
So, in the cold climes I use a vitamin c boosting serum like the magical SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, and then work the BB foundation directly on top. Marvellous.
My pink and yellow Marni dress and Jimmy Choo studded shoes completed my defiance of the cold weather outside.
Plus I had my fake fur Shrimps coat to roll up into before I hit the snowy NY streets after (and popped into Solange’s NY store on Madison on the drive home. I did have a limo chauffeuring me around- thanks Wendy-so I made the most of it!)
