It’s always wonderful to see people you know find their passion and become successful doing it. This can be said for my friend Arabella Preston who used to assist me. Now a successful make-up artist in her own right, Arabella is also the co-founder of Votary, an exclusive line of high quality facial oils.
Having used only oils to prep her client’s skin as well as in her own skincare routine, Arabella’s kitchen table began turning into a make-shift apothecary as she experimented with the different effects oils could have on the skin and also, the myriad of ways in which essential oils affected mood. She then noticed the “shoulder-drop” effect on clients. Two minutes spent massaging a beautiful oil into their skin would relax and calm and, just as importantly, result in glowing, healthy skin.
Joining forces was one such devotee (and former employer) Charlotte Semler, who visualised a future for VOTARY beyond the kitchen table. When Charlotte came on board a U.K.- based family oil business was appointed to produce the formulas on a larger scale and a design agency in New York City the branding.
Arabella gave me some to try and having never used facial oils to cleanse before (being a foaming cleanser kinda gal), I have to say I’ve switched! I find facial oils and the whole hot cloth and cleansing routine ideal for the dry, centrally heated winter as well as a very pleasureable ritual.
Finally, place the warm cloth over your face and gently wipe away the oil in upward movements. Rinse and repeat in clean warm water until cleansed!
