This book was created by our friend Bay Garnett and Kira Joliffe back in 2007, the hardback book version of their hip cult magazine ‘Cheap Date’.
Bay told us that “the whole philosophy for the book was about doing it YOUR own way – of being inspired and influenced from different cultures, movies, thrift stores, music…and that you can do it without spending money. It really was and is about empowerment. That’s the bottom line. That being individual and going for it and celebrating it is wonderful!
I was captivated and intrigued by a history before my time, lured by their loner mentality and enticed by their rebellion. This is a style guide like no other, the ultimate gift of discovery, history and knowledge. It’s the antithesis of the ‘herded and fed'”
Susie Bubble says “ Cheap Date became a celebration of individual style, freedom of choice, empowerment and a love of dressing up; with interviews with the people that we loved. The sense of fun and irreverence was amazing.
The editors of the world-famous Cheap Date magazine, will lead you up their stairway to style, whatever your budget. Packed full of good old-fashioned style tips, this down-to-earth guide shows you how embracing your individuality-finding your own taste and being fearless unveils your inherent natural style. Following the age-old mantra ‘the rules are: there are no rules’, this fun, funky yet sophisticated bible will refresh and reinvigorate both you and your wardrobe.”
