1. Yahtzee
Yahtzee was first invented somewhere around the 1950s and has remained a family favorite to this day. It’s suitable for ages 8 and up, and you only need more than one person to play, so it’s a particularly versatile game.
For this game, you’ll need five 6-sided dice and a card and pencil to keep score. Yahtzee has thirteen rounds. To begin, players take turns rolling their 5 dice one at a time in clockwise order.
Players can roll any of the dice a maximum of two more times. They must set aside any dice they are keeping and reroll the rest. Whenever the player is satisfied, they score their dice and their turn ends.
There are certain things that will earn a player extra points, such as five of a kind. The aim of the game is to score as high as possible. At the end of the final round, the scores are totted up and the winner is declared.
2. Dungeons and Dragons
Another popular dice game is Dungeons and Dragons. This is an elaborate board game involving figurines, characters, and a myriad of different types of dice.
A dice set for D&D has seven dice. A D20, D12, D10, D8, D6, and D4. These come in beautiful designs, such as this one, made out of natural stone.
Players roll their dice in order to see what the game will have in store for their characters. Games can last up to four hours and are best played with a medium-sized group.
3. Beetle
Beetle is a fun and simple dice game you’ll need a dice, pen, and paper to play. Each number on the dice corresponds to a different part of a beetle’s body. Players roll to determine which body part they must draw. The first player to finish drawing their beetle wins.
There are some further rules to this game: the body of the bug must be drawn first, and if a number is rolled that matches a body part the player has already drawn, their turn must end.
