5 Ways to Have a More Private Home

January 27, 2022 · Cherry · Leave a Comment

Whether you live in an apartment in the city or a farmhouse in the country, privacy is something that everyone values, especially since it often goes hand in hand with security. Unfortunately, transforming your space into a private home can be difficult.

In 2019, over a million burglaries took place across the country. Had many of those people had more private and secure homes, the burglaries likely wouldn’t have occurred.

Luckily, it’s not as difficult to increase privacy in your living space as you might think. Interested in finding out how you can do it?

Read on to learn more.

1. Install a Fence

Fences are a great way to add a sense of both security and privacy to your home. They help define your home and yard, and when used correctly, can help keep peering eyes away from your home.

While fences of all sizes can help increase privacy, consider using taller ones in certain areas around your yard. Even the most curious neighbors will have a difficult time peeking or traversing over a six-foot-tall fence!

2. Use Greenery

Fences are a great way to prevent people from seeing private areas of your home, but sometimes, you might want something more natural. In that case, consider using greenery to create a similar effect.

Hedges, shrubs, and even tall flowers can make it difficult for people to see into your home. If you live in a colder climate, just make sure to use evergreen foliage that won’t disappear for months on end!

3. Buy Curtains and Blinds

Of course, you also want to take steps to increase privacy from inside your house. One of the simplest ways to do that is by installing curtains and blinds.

If you want to ensure that you can still see out of your windows, you might want to look into getting a Llumar residential window film.

4. Separate the Different Rooms of Your House

Open-floor plans are all the rage right now, but they can make it easy to see into huge sections of your home. To maintain the airy feeling but increase privacy, try using dividers, plants, or even bookshelves to section off the different areas of your home.

5. Switch up the Areas Where You Spend Time

Home intruders are often attracted to lit-up areas of your home. For that reason, you might want to consider spending time in different areas of your home at night.

If your living room light is always on and visible from the outside, think about relocating to a room of the house that’s more private and difficult to peer into.

Make a Private Home Your Reality

In many cases, having a private home is more than just a matter of comfort: it’s a matter of security. Use this guide to help transform your living space into a safer, more private space.
