How to Make Your Home Cozy and Inviting All Year

January 17, 2022 · Cherry · Leave a Comment

Picture this: winter is here, darkness has arrived once more. All of us are huddled up inside our homes, wishing it were summer again.

But despite the cold, you can still make the most of the season, and turn your home into a cozy winter wonderland with just a few cozy home ideas, and cozy home library ideas.

If you’re interested in learning how to make your home cozy this winter, keep reading for 6 of our top tips now!

Step 1: Add Some Mood Lighting

Nothing makes a home cozier than dim lights. Try to use lamps, light up candles or put on low-watt bulbs.

Just make sure not to overdo it – too much darkness can be depressing. And don’t forget about the fireplace! Nothing says “cozy” like a fireplace burning brightly in the middle of your living room.

One thing that can help is to keep your windows free of obstructions. Also, try using blinds instead of curtains as they let more light through and give off an airy impression.

In addition, you should also open up those shutters completely – sunlight creates a feeling of openness and brightness inside any space!

Step 2: Get Warm

Who doesn’t like snuggling up by the fire? If you don’t have a fireplace, that’s no big deal. You can still achieve this “in front of the fire” feeling with electric or gas-powered space heaters.

They offer all of the coziness (if not more) without having to worry about starting an actual fire in your living room.

Another way to increase the warmth of your home is by boarding your loft. You can find out the cost of boarding a loft here.

Step 3: Add Some Greenery

Potted plants always make any home look alive and fresh. Plus they bring much-needed oxygen into your domicile.

This is especially important during winter when windows are closed (and therefore less ventilation occurs).

Step 4: Get Crafty

What’s cozier than a handmade quilt? How about an afghan? Go ahead and learn how to make one yourself (here are some directions ).

If you don’t like knitting or crocheting, try something simpler like papercrafts. Paper snowflakes, for example, make great decorations!

Furthermore, there are tons of DIY projects you can do with kids. These also make great gifts for family members. And if all else fails, candles that say words on them are always a surefire hit (see here for examples).

Step 5: Wear Something Cozy

You know the saying – “a sweater can make even a holey pair of jeans look cute!” And who doesn’t want that?

But when there’s snow outside and your teeth are chattering, nothing feels warmer than a thick, fuzzy blanket wrapped snugly around you.

So whether you’re indoors or outdoors during wintertime, don’t forget to wear something warm!

Step 6: Eat Something Warm

Winter wouldn’t be complete without that hot beverage to go along with it. If you’re not into coffee, that’s okay! There are plenty of other tasty drinks you can make.

Try some chai tea, for example, or how about a “sea salted” caramel hot chocolate? You could even try making your own cocoa mix!
