Doing makeup is an art form and many people of all genders love to use makeup to express themselves! Doing makeup for a photoshoot is more difficult than doing makeup looks for your day-to-day life, however.

If you have a photoshoot coming up, you should start planning now so you can gather all of your supplies. Whether you’re doing makeup for yourself or for a friend, we have a few tips to help you out.

Keep reading to learn how to do makeup for a photoshoot.

First: Know the Photo Style

Not all photoshoots are going to need the same photo makeup looks. You wouldn’t want to go full-glam for a casual and natural photoshoot, right?

When you’re prepping for your photoshoot makeup with Jules Design Fashion Photography, for example, you’d want to get an idea of the fashion you’re going to be wearing. A full-glam look is great for “night out” clothes, but not ideal for a soft wedding look.

Practice With Lighting

Did you know that the lighting for your photo will make a huge difference when it comes to how your makeup looks in the finished results?

When you do your makeup at home, you usually do it under the bright lights of your bathroom or bedroom, right? This works well enough for casual makeup looks, but it won’t necessarily work for photoshoot looks.

If your photoshoot is going to be in natural light, make sure that you test your makeup in natural light. If there’s going to be a flash, check your makeup looks for flashback (many concealers and powders cause unattractive flashback).

Avoid Shimmer

Speaking of flashback, it’s a good idea to avoid anything that’s going to attract too much light to your look. This means that it might be in your best interest to avoid anything too shimmery, like a harsh highlighter.

Unless you’re specifically going for a shiny and glittery look, the sparkles will distract from the rest of your look.

Take Your Time

Makeup looks for a photoshoot are going to be immortalized in the photos. If you mess up your day-to-day makeup look, you can remove it and start over the next day. If you mess up your photoshoot makeup, it’s there in the photos forever.

Sure, the photographer can make simple edits, but they won’t be able to fix serious mistakes.

Before you go to your photoshoot, take extra time to make sure that your look is perfect. Make sure that you’re happy with your coverage, that you don’t look cakey, and that all of your lines are neat and clean. There’s no rush!

It’s Time to Prepare Your Makeup for a Photoshoot

Doing your makeup for a photoshoot can be a lot of fun. Use these helpful tips to create the best looks for a photoshoot so you’re camera-ready! Whether you love the dewy and natural look or you’re going full-glam, you’re sure to have a perfect look.
