What a Spiritual Journey Actually Looks Like in Practice

March 14, 2022 · Cherry · Leave a Comment

Are you one of the 75% of Americans who is a spiritual person? If you’re on a new spiritual journey, you may be wondering what to expect. And if you’ve long identified yourself as spiritual, you may be wondering what new pathways to take.

Stay with us to learn what a spiritual journey looks like in practice.

Start Finding Your Purpose

Who are you, and what do you believe? When you can’t define answers to those questions, it may signal a need to search your mind, soul, and body for answers. Consider taking time away from work to focus on your core beliefs.

You may even want to go on a pilgrimage as a process of learning more about yourself. This centuries-old practice remains a popular way to journey toward understanding and self-discovery. The quiet moments of walking through the landscape offer plenty of opportunities to reflect.

Identify Baggage in Your Life

What holds your mind captive? If you’re not able to point to a loving family member or spiritual person, you may be weighed down by baggage.

You may have traumatic memories, such as an abusive relationship or a difficult career. Begin writing down your challenges, enemies, and frustrations. And know that a spiritual journey can help you shed this baggage.

Determine what time you can commit to reset your soul. A defined journey can include a month-long pilgrimage across a foreign landscape. Or it can include weekly hikes where you can be alone.

Encounter Different Spiritual Resources

Going on a spiritual journey means that you’re open to the influence of different spiritual practices. Look to sacred texts from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Or explore the writings connected to Taoism, Shintoism, or Buddhism.

Consult sacred chakras or determine your sacred number. Look at liturgical practices and prayer rituals. And talk to leaders representing religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

Ask, “Who is my guardian angel?” You may see your angel in dreams or feel their presence around you.

Come to a Spiritual Awakening

Once you’ve consulted a variety of resources, put them into practice. Develop daily habits of prayer or meditation to center your mind. Carve out times of solitude or reading sessions with religious texts that inspire you.

You’ll experience a wide range of emotions as you develop daily practices and journal about your feelings. But you’ll be opening your mind and moving toward discoveries that can be freeing.

You may want to identify a spiritual person in your life to guide you toward an awakening. At this point on your journey, you’ll feel a sense of clarity and purpose. This may be referred to as a moment of self-realization.

Begin Your Spiritual Journey

A spiritual journey does not have a concrete beginning, middle, and end. Rather, it is about immersing yourself in a process of self-discovery with spiritual guides at the helm. You’ll move from darkness to elation, and eventually, you may experience a sense of peace.
