What Are the Best Types of Flowers to Give as Gifts?

January 10, 2022 · Cherry · Leave a Comment

Roses: they’re the classic way to show your loved ones you care.

With their romantic shape and numerous colors, roses are sure to make any receiver feel appreciated. But what other options exist?

Keep reading to learn more about the different types of flowers and which recipients to which they would be suited.

Tulips

As one of the most popular flowers in the world, Tulips are a go-to choice for many looking to spread love and affection. Tulips are most associated with the Netherlands, where they grow throughout the country.

The flowers provide a sense of warmth to the receiver without the seduction of the classic rose or the more seductive orchid. Their elegance makes them the definition of perfect love.

Roses

Unsurprisingly, roses are probably what first comes to mind when you think of giving someone flowers. They’re the classic choice associated with romance and beauty, even symbolizing true love for the receiver. Typically sold at a more expensive price point, roses show how much you care about the receiver.

They’re the most popular choice for Valentine’s day, as 250 million roses are produced for the holidays.

Interested in learning a floral industry secret? Flower growers even hold back the production of roses in order to have enough bloom in time for Valentine’s day.

Even sending a single rose can be a gesture to a loved one that you care about them. Boutiques like 800Florals Roses allow you to send roses with ease and even deliver them on the same day.

If you’re looking to make a loved one feel special, you can never go wrong with roses.

Orchids

But if you want to give a romantic bouquet without going the route of roses, Orchids are the perfect chioce. Their blossoms symbolize both the softness of love and beauty and strength.

Both the coloring and shape make them a seductive choice that is a bit bolder than roses. Another reason to go for orchids? They hold up well over time.

Daffodils

Known for their bright yellow coloring, often with orange centers, daffodils are sure to send a happy message to the receiver.

Though they’re traditionally given to a partner on a 10th anniversary, they’re also a wonderful way to show love to someone you care about – whether it’s a romantic relationship or not. Giving someone daffodils has even been said to bring good luck for 12 months.

Peonies

You likely know peonies for their luscious petals and soft pink color – it’s no wonder that these fluffy flowers evoke feelings of romance and prosperity. After receiving peonies, you may experience more good fortune and positivity than usual. Think of peonies as a good luck charm!

The flowers have roots in ancient times, as they are named after Paeon, a disciple of Aesculapius, the Greek go of Medicine. Legend holds that Paeon used a peony concussion to heal Pluto after a war injury. Peonies were also gathered in medieval times to be used for making medicines.

Although no longer associated with healing benefits, peonies may bring peace of mind and restorative properties to a receiver.

Matthiola Incana

Give a loved one a pleasant surprise with the Mattiola Incana. These flowers give the receiver a special twist with their spicy cinnamon and clove scents. The contrast between the spicy scent and the delicate pink blossoms is sure to make these flowers one of the most unique yet tantalizing choices.

Gerbera Daisies

Gerbera daisies are one of the most versatile and cheery options that you could give as a gift. They’re known for their large flowering heads and wide-open blooms but can come in a variety of colors that are sure to bring cheer to the recipient.

While Gerbera daises are known to represent innocence and purity, they also symbolize beauty. They’re a refreshing option and the right choice for someone you admire without wanting to be too straightforward.

Sunflowers

For a recipient who may be a friend or family member, sunflowers are a great choice to spread love and positive energy. It’s no surprise that most people agree these blooms represent warmth and happiness.

Their bright yellow petals make them the perfect pick-me-up for anyone that you care about, whether they’re a friend going through a difficult time or someone you want to give an extra-special thank you to.

Pink Asters

Another flower that has roots in ancient mythology, Pink Asters symbolize Venus, the Goddess of love.

And who would disagree that these flowers represent love with their charming coloring and positive energy?

Pink asters extend their think pink petals with sensitivity, opening up to a bright yellow center. The flowers get their name from their star-shaped flower head, epitomizing the celestial energy of immortality.

Irises

Irises offer a richer appeal with their coloring. Although they can be found in white and yellow, you’ll likely recognize the most famous irises as dark blue or purple in coloring.

The colors often are associated with faith and hope, as purple is a long-time symbol of spirituality.

The flowers are also the subject of several of artist Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. His famous “Irises” painting is one of a series that he made at the Saint Paul-de-Mausole asylum in the year preceding his death.

Carnations

Like peonies, carnations are fluffy flowers with soft, plush petals. Their ruffled look adds a sense of vitality and youth, which makes them the perfect gift for new love.

Give your partner carnations and you’ll show them how fascinating they are to you!
