When Is the Best Time of Year to Build a Pool?

February 8, 2022 · Cherry · Leave a Comment

You’ve made the decision. You are finally going to build a pool.

There’s no doubt that long, hot Summer days are better with a pool in the backyard. Refreshing, of course. The kids will love it, too.

And it’ll be a focal point – a great place to entertain around all year long, almost a vacation spot in the backyard. Long drives to the beach with expensive meals along the way will be a thing of the past.

You’ve done the math, and you’re moving ahead. You know that building a swimming pool will boost your home’s value by five percent, probably more.

So what’s involved? And how long does it take? How do you decide when to build a pool? First, let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of building a pool at different times.

Start With a Fall Build

One of the things to keep in mind, no matter when you build, is the time involved. In-ground pools don’t magically appear overnight.

Although actual construction might only take weeks, a lot more goes into the process – financing, permits, insurance, and inspections. Again, an experienced company, like Liquidassetspools.com, can guide you through the process.

If your pool builder can fit you into their schedule, Fall’s a good time for the actual construction. The weather is generally good in most areas, and the project will be wrapped up before Winter.

Fall’s also a great time for planting, and any additional landscaping that you need around the pool can take place in the Spring. You’ll be all set when Summer rolls around!

Why Not Winter

Whether or not a Winter build is feasible depends on your weather. Frozen ground and excavating a pool are not a great combination.

Though you might save a bit because your installer has a lighter workload, Winter construction is typically more expensive, and concrete takes longer to cure.

Add to that the fact that most, if not all, planting and landscaping will be delayed until Spring, and building a pool in the Winter may not be your best choice.

Spring Is in the Air

A Spring pool build is a great plan from a construction and landscaping perspective. There’s plenty of time to get everything wrapped up, so when summer hits, you are ready to jump in.

Early Spring might – again, depending on your contractor – be a good choice. There may be some savings available, and their work schedule could be lighter.

Summer: Pool Time

If you don’t mind watching the process while you’d like to be in the pool, Summer builds may have some advantages. Labor and materials are readily available, and the weather is conducive.

Beyond that, pricing might be better in some areas, and landscaping is straightforward.

Four Seasons to Build a Pool

The bottom line on when to build a pool? Except in the harshest winter climate, pools are built year-round. Each season has some advantages and disadvantages, so explore your options.

Once you’ve decided to install a pool, the sooner you start the process, the sooner you’ll be in the water!
